Post-doctoral fellowship in health economics
Working environment: The SESSTIM (UMR 912 INSERM – IRD – Aix-Marseille University) is inviting applications for a postdoctoral position in health economics based in Marseille, in a high quality research environment. This lab is one of the French research units with the longest experience in health economics and policy. Since 2000, it has extended its research activities in low and middle income countries, especially in the field of economics of HIV/AIDS and has been strongly involved on the issue of access to treatment.
A strong experience in operational research conducted alongside national ART programs in sub-Saharan Africa has been developed. More recently, research programs dealing with the economic evaluation of HIV care and treatment strategies have been developed within trials in partnership with international research teams.
The post-doctoral position will take place at SESSTIM in Marseille within the TasP ANRS research project. This project is ongoing in South Africa since 2012 in partnership with ISPED at Bordeaux and the Africa Center in South Africa (Principal Investigors: François Dabis and Deenan Pillay). This is a cluster randomized control trial which aimed to estimate the effect of ART initiated immediately after HIV diagnosis, irrespective of CD4 count criteria, on the reduction in incidence of new HIV infections in the general population in the same setting.
Within the trial, the SESSTIM is more specifically involved in the economic evaluation of the intervention with as early objective to assess the cost of the intervention and as further objective to assess its cost-effectiveness based on modeling. The post-doctoral position is expected to contribute to this economic aspect of the project with the support of the health economics researchers and engineer involved in the project.
