The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) is a multi-disciplinary research institute in Lyon, France. It is an independently funded institution, and also a specialized cancer agency of the World Health Organisation. The particular focus of IARC is international collaborative research projects cutting across a wide range of disciplines including laboratory, clinical, epidemiological and public health.

A postdoctoral opportunity is immediately available in the Prevention and Implementation (PRI) Group. PRI coordinates large international studies to evaluate new primary and secondary cancer preventive strategies, and engages in research on how best to implement these strategies. Shared Decision Making (SDM) is recognised as the best methodology to ensure a patient-centred decision process, notably in the field of cancer screening. However, SDM implementation in health practice services is challenging.

CANelles project aims to create, implement and evaluate a social network in breast cancer screening in France to be used as a SDM tool for both women at the age of joining the breast cancer screening programme and General Practitioners. An international multi-disciplinary committee will be set up to advise on the development of recommendations for online tools, including the social network. The current postdoctoral opportunity is in the field of health services research and morespecifically in Shared Decision Making. Your activities will cover both research and project management to reach the target outcome, - online shared decision making tool for better decisions in breast cancer screening.

The postdoctoral opportunity is initially for 18 months, with a possible renewal in case of successful performance and funding availability. It will be tenable in Lyon (France). The IARC stipend is currently €2,820 per month. The cost of travel for the postdoctoral scientist, and in certain circumstances for dependants, will be met, a dependant’s allowance paid, and health insurance covered. Applications from women and from nationals from low and middle income countries are particularly encouraged. IARC welcomes around 40 postdoctoral scientists, distributed across its sixteen research groups. Postdoctoral scientists at IARC have access to a wide spectrum of scientific disciplines and to a unique network of collaborators across the world.
